You've Got This!

“No, improv-based training has to be done in-person, it just wouldn’t work in a virtual setting.” was always my response, whenever anyone asked if I did virtual team training. It’s a little embarrassing to share, as a huge cheerleader for the “Yes, and” principle, that this was one area that I consistently found myself saying, “No”...up until March.

“Necessity is the mother of all invention.”

I’ve never believed this more. It wasn’t until I HAD to figure it out, that I finally… figured out how to serve teams virtually (thanks Zoom breakout rooms!) Just last week, I received feedback from a participant in my Virtual Improv for Team Building workshop that made my heart sing, “You wouldn’t think that this type of thing would work virtually, but it did, it was fun, it wasn’t confusing, and it was effective!” I did it! “A” for the day!

I’m finding, not just for myself but for others as well, that we’re realizing that we are capable of so much more than we may have previously thought. We’ve taken on working remotely, homeschooling and parenting through a pandemic, finding creative ways to stay connected with family and friends and simply surviving. Not-for-profits have figured out how to creatively fundraise, so that they can continue to offer services to their community, even with canceled galas and countless other organizations have pivoted to provide products and services that are needed now.

It’s not to say that we want to be tackling these levels of challenges constantly, it’s simply not sustainable… but we are capable.

I hope that as you move through this and eventually move on to a new normal, you can look back and say, “Wow, I did that, I helped to get our community/family/organization through something really difficult. We figured it out.” I hope that you carry that creativity and resilience forward.

You are capable

you are creative

you are resilient

and you have so much to offer.
